Fire Staff, Fire Twirling Shows available for booking in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide & Melbourne
Fire performers seasoned and young marvel at the endless complexities and wholesome simplicity of the fire staff. Fire staffs are the primary piece of equipment in most fire artists shows. It allows for a variety of different styles and tricks that can be done at ease once the performer is used the the equipment. Unlike poi, fire staffs can be held as a wand or baton to assist with miming or audience interaction. The use of fire on a staff is not limited to spinning but can be used as a torch, a fire eating stick, a tiki torch and any number of different things to place emphasis on the performer. When the artist has more than one fire staff available, they may choose to juggle them or anitspin and isolate them to form various patterns that boggle the mind.
My favorite piece of equipment is the contact fire staff. Contact fire staff is a technique of manipulating the staff without touching it with your hands. Artists find various ways to push the staff up and over their shoulders only to perpetuate its movements by ducking under it again with their neck to wrap it around their body in hypnotic ways.
Beginner fire twirlers will usually choose the fire staff to start off with. It helps when learning to be able to stop the equipment when you want and to have firm control over its movement. I recommend learning on a fire staff that comes up to your chest while learning to twirl. Make sure you get it from a trusted equipment maker as having a fire staff unravel while your spinning it could cause serious injury.
